It is impossible to scale the creation process of valuable data products without performant data pipelines that deliver trustworthy data. Without trustworthy data, it takes months to create believable views on the data, even if the aggregations are simple. This disrupts development of all digital products, from those that simply display aggregated information to those centred around machine learning. When deployed, they also undermine user trust, which can sabotage a whole product line. To fix this, we will need technical teams to standardize their workflow, and to onboard business teams to the importance of data quality and documentation. This is no easy task, as corporate hierarchy produces additional layers of complexity.
